A Galactic 31st Birthday

Well, I know Roger and the crew with The Moonhanger Group didn’t bring Galactic to the Cox on my birthday on purpose, however I’m going to just believe otherwise, at least for this post 😉 Same goes for Danny and Nick’s timing with Turnip Festival.

This past weekend saw some AMAZING music here in Macon. I got to hear, and meet, one of my favorite new bands at the new Turnip Festival. (Thomas Wynn and the Believers- yesssssss.) I also got to hear and meet a new band, Baby Baby, which isn’t my usual style of music but their high energy performance and costumes (or perhaps lack of) were interesting at Turnip Festival as well.

Things kicked off with me trying to fight off a cold (still working on that) at my usual hotspot: Dovetail. The tamales there are a.m.a.z.i.n.g. Amazing.

How could you NOT like that?! It didn’t take much to fill me up.

Laney also made me a couple of these spiced apple pie martini thingys. Just too damn good. Anyways…

Then it was off to Turnip Festival!! Most of the beginning of the night was a blur, I was there to catch my dear friends in JuBee and the Morning After as well as to meet Thomas Wynn and the Believers. Neither would disappoint me.

There’s not a whole lot cooler than getting to hear music live that you listen to on a near daily basis on your Spotify playlist.

After a loooooong night and what appeared to be a successful Turnip Festival, Saturday was rather uneventful for me. However Sunday was my birthday- let’s be honest 31 is rather anti-climatic and boring after all of the hoop-la of 30. And all I could think about was “well 10 years ago was 21”- Jesus Christ really??? And I had to work that day and I was still fighting against being sick. I almost didn’t even go to the Cox Capitol Theatre’s Galactic with Space Capone and Earphunk. However, I do have this new DSLR camera I am learning and I am finding that concerts are a great way to learn how to use it. Plus I know I can trust Roger Riddle’s music taste.

I didn’t make it for the beginning but let me tell you- I was hooked. Upon walking up I realized wow- this really must be something because Sunday nights just aren’t this busy in downtown Macon. There was already a crowd waiting outside the Cox. The Moonhanger Group was also catering with their own Jambalaya (so sorry I didn’t get any)!

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves- this was a show that if you missed it, well you really did miss out. All in all, I’d like to thank Roger and the folks at The Moonhanger Group, as well as Turnip Festival, for allowing me to really rock out my 31st birthday weekend- even if I wasn’t really feeling up for it.

*A note: I have changed my blog template- yay! But if you look at the top photos, you can click through them to see the whole gallery.

Love to all y’all,
