No, I’m not condoning any type of violence with the title of this post. It just happens to be a line out of my high school’s fight song (I know, I know). But it goes along with the theme of today’s post… FIGHT SONGS!!!

We’re only a short THREE WEEKS away from the start of college football! *insert Katie’s happy dance right here* And what better time than now to go over the best and worst college fight songs in the country. I asked on social media for the fight songs that everyone loved to love or loved to hate, so these lists aren’t just my opinion. 🙂

The Best College Fight Songs

1. Michigan

No list would be complete without Hail to the Victors. It’s a classic.

2. Notre Dame

Same with Notre Dame. Another classic.

3. Georgia

A lot of people think that Glory is UGA’s official fight song. It’s not. Hail to Georgia is. But both songs are what fight songs should be: peppy, catchy, and ones that gets the crowd on its feet.

4. Tennessee

Good ol Rocky Top may get on some people’s nerves, but when you hear it, you know EXACTLY what school it is.

5. Texas

So I may have a slight bias since I work at Texas. But Texas Fight is SUCH a good fight song. It has the classic-ness of Michigan and Notre Dame but just enough kitsch to make it different. And I love that about it. \m/

6. Alabama

Is any best college fight song list complete without Yay Alabama? No, no it’s not. From the drum roll in the beginning to the transition and then the meat of the fight song, it’s just all around great. Sorry LSU, but Bama does it better.

7. Virginia (unofficial fight song)

Because, it’s Auld Lang Syne but in fight song style. The end.

8. Mercer

Mercer was an EXTREMELY popular best fight song contender and I couldn’t leave them off my list, especially with them being my hometown team!

9. Ga Tech

I got multiple responses for each one of Tech’s fight songs, so I included both on this list.

10. USC

Another classic. It would just be wrong to not include it on the list.

Honorable Mentions: Florida, Army, Navy, Virginia Tech

The Worst College Fight Songs
1. Florida State

I wouldn’t have thought that FSU’s fight song would have been such a miss. But it was. Once I listened to it, I get it. It’s so repetitive and doesn’t have the same hype factor as their war chant.

2. Texas A&M

Does this one really need any explanation? Nope.

3. Ohio State

Ohio St has a great football program that is full of tradition, but their fight song doesn’t have the same pizazz. It sounds like something that was written in 10 minutes on a drunken Saturday night.

4. Kennesaw State

Oh Kennesaw, you had SO much potential when you finally decided to get a fight song after you decided to start a football program. You had UGA, Ga Tech, Ga Southern, and Morehouse (to name a few) to look at when you were creating your fight song. I’ll give you props that the fight song doesn’t sound half bad when you don’t have to listen to the student athletes singing it, but no one will ever be able to forget that fateful first video of the fight song. Kennesaw, you really dropped the ball on this one. #forshame

5. Auburn

Oh Auburn, is your fight song catchy? Yes. Is it possibly the worst thing I’ve ever heard and makes me want to rip my ears off every time I hear it? Yep.

6. UConn

This fight song makes the worst list because, as someone on twitter said, it sounds pretentious.

7. Oklahoma State

OSU makes the list because, well, their fight song sounds like creepy carnival music sped up.

8. Clemson

It’s jazzy and a little more modern than a traditional fight song. But that’s what make college fight songs great, the fact that you can listen to it and either flat out know or maybe have an inkling of which school it might be. Clemson’s is just so blah.

9. Oregon State

I’ve heard Oregon State’s fight song a couple of times and I’ve never been a big fan of it. I feel like they’re fighting the same fight that Auburn, Baylor and TCU are all fighting, the little brother fight. This fight song just leaves something to be desired.
10. Wisconsin

On Wisconsin. Every. Single. High. School. Fight. Song. Ever. Created.

Dishonorable Mentions: FGCU, LSU, UNC, Duke
