I don’t know what to say or exactly how to feel. I know that I feel anger and sadness because of everything that has happened in our country this last week and year. I want to tell my friends that everything is going to be ok, that we’ll learn from our past mistakes and fix this. We’ll fix it and slowly begin to mend the wounds that these horrid events have caused.

But I can’t. I can’t tell my friends that everything is going to be ok because it’s not. I can’t tell them that everything will get fixed because I don’t believe it will. Yes, we have made strides in equality since the Civil Rights Movement and the 1960s, but it’s not enough. We need to do more in providing equality for EVERYONE. I’m not sure exactly how to go about doing this, but I believe that every. single. person. is responsible for fixing this. It’s not just a LGBTQ problem or an African American problem, it’s an everyone problem
. It is up to all of us to change the injustices in the world. It is up to us to fix it peacefully. Violence won’t solve the problem, it never does.
I’m not sure what else to say. I know it’s time to make a change for the better in this country. I know I will be part of this change. I hope anyone who reads this, takes the same stance and makes a change, whether it’s locally, state wide, or even nationally. It’s time that we take this bull by the horns and change our world for the better, not just for us but for future generations.
