There’s a Storm Brewing

*Originally this post was going to be titled ‘Hit Me with Your Best Shot’ , however, after Devon Gales from Southern University got hurt this past Saturday in the UGA/Southern game, the title became tasteless, in my opinion.  The entire staff at Southern Bon Vivant sends out their thoughts and prayers to Devon and his family and wish him a speedy recovery. Southern University  has also set up The Devon Gales Fund to help Devon and his family with medical expenses.  *   Dawgnation has been providing updates as they have come available, as has ESPN, click here for Dawgnation and here for ESPN, to read their respective articles.

Anyways, back to our weekly picks. Last week, we all did pretty well with our picks, well except Chris, but we’ll excuse him since he did go to South Carolina and all.

Daniel 10-2 (46-8)
Katie 9-3    (45-9)
Garret 9-3   (43-11)
Molly 8-4   (28-9)  ** didn’t participate week 1
Chris 3-9     (23-17)  ** didn’t have guest picker week 1

Chris is also our guest picker again this week! We thought it was a great idea to bring him back and here’s what he had to say about that.

“I thought this was a one-time thing, this guest picker. But no…the shame of poor picks has the potential to grow. That’s fine. I sat through almost every game of a 21-game losing streak; if my team can power through a public beating, so can I. But I still want the rankings to be upended, and I’m picking by what I want, not what I think. Because, honestly, when you’re 3-9 and you can only hope your team breaks even this year, all you have left is the joy of yelling at the score.”

This week’s games are

#1 Ohio St @ Indiana
#2 Michigan St v Purdue
#3 Ole Miss @ #25 Florida
#4 TCU v Texas
#5 Baylor vs Texas Tech
#6 ND @ #12 Clemson
#7 UCLA vs Arizona State
#8 UGA vs #13 Alabama
#9 LSU vs Eastern Michigan
#10 Utah – bye week

Mercer vs Wofford
Tennessee v Arkansas
S Carolina @ Mizzou

Molly’s Picks

#1 Ohio St vs Indiana- I wish it would be Indiana. I’m cheering for them. But I’m not picking them to win. Ohio State.
#2 Michigan St v Purdue – Again, wish it was Purdue. I know it’s not going to happen. Oh hell, maybe it will. But I pick Michigan State for the same reasons I picked Ohio State.
#3 Ole Miss @ #25 Florida – Ole Miss. They are looking damn good, and Florida is not likely to pull an upset.
#4 TCU v Texas Yeah really why in the hell is TCU still ranked so high when they almost lost to an unranked team? They’ve got weaknesses, and Texas is going to bring it. I’m going for it and saying Texas.
#5 Baylor vs Texas Tech – I think Texas Tech is hungry- especially after last week. And they know they can do it.
#6 ND vs  #12 Clemson – Actually, I’m picking Clemson. I think ND is way overrated. Clemson.
#7 UCLA vs Arizona State- UCLA, seems obvious. And I know nothing about Arizona State. Being honest.
#8 UGA vs Alabama- ********* you Chris Floore. Of course you picked Alabama. Truth be told I don’t think this will be an easy win for the Dawgs. It’s gong to be an ugly fight- literally with a hurricane predicted to come through. Going to be an ugly, muddly battle but UGA comes out on top. I think they use the 2008 Blackout mess as motivation. Plus the hype video is freaking awesome. Look for Mark Richt to pull something completely uncharacteristic out- like in 2007 when we stormed the Florida endzone. Except now we’re at home, with our fans, and ready for redemption.
#9 LSU vs Eastern Michigan – Yeah I’ll say LSU as well.
#10 Utah – bye week

Mercer vs Wofford – Duh. Mercer. Aside from it being my Alma Mater they’re playing strong
Tennessee v Arkansas – But not because of orange. Because they put up a strong fight against A&M. But Tennessee doesn’t go down without a fight. This one should be close, I think Tennessee is on their way to coming back strong. Next year will be rough for them with so many seniors this year, but they’re one to watch.
S Carolina @ Mizzou – I really want to pick Mizzou just to spite Floore, but why rub salt in the wounds? SC

Katie’s Picks

#1 Ohio St @ Indiana – I really want Indiana because Hoosiers is a great movie (I know different sport) but also because I can’t stand Urban Meyer.
#2 Michigan St v Purdue
#3 Ole Miss @ #25 Florida – I didn’t cheer for Florida when they were representing the SEC in the National Championship and I’m not going to start that now. Plus, Ole Miss is looking really good and Florida’s not that great. It may be in the Swamp but I’m predicting a blowout.
#4 TCU v Texas – 2 heartwrenching losses at home in the last 2 weeks (and I was there to watch both). I’m feeling weirdly optimistic about this Texas team though. I have this feeling that last week was a turning point and they’ll be on the up and up from here on out. Plus, I think TCU may still be recovering from their game last week. #letsride
#5 Baylor vs Texas Tech
#6 ND @ #12 Clemson
#7 UCLA vs Arizona State
#8 UGA vs #13 Alabama – Duh.  And don’t even get me started on how irksome it is that UGA is undefeated and we moved DOWN a spot in the polls this past week. RAH-UDE.
#9 LSU vs Eastern Michigan
#10 Utah – bye week

Mercer vs Wofford
Tennessee v Arkansas – As much as I want to pick Tennessee, Arkansas just performed better last week. I think it’ll be a fight til the clock hits 0:00 in the 4th quarter
S Carolina @ Mizzou –  I just want to see OBC throw his visor.

Garret’s Picks

#1 Ohio St @ Indiana
#2 Michigan St v Purdue
#3 Ole Miss @ #25 Florida
#4 TCU v Texas
#5 Baylor vs Texas Tech
#6 ND @ #12 Clemson
#7 UCLA vs Arizona State
#8 UGA vs #13 Alabama
#9 LSU vs Eastern Michigan
#10 Utah – bye week

Mercer vs Wofford
Tennessee v Arkansas
S Carolina @ Mizzou

Daniel’s Picks

#1 Ohio St @ Indiana
#2 Michigan St v Purdue
#3 Ole Miss @ #25 Florida
#4 TCU v Texas
#5 Baylor vs Texas Tech
#6 ND @ #12 Clemson
#7 UCLA vs Arizona State
#8 UGA vs #13 Alabama
#9 LSU vs Eastern Michigan
#10 Utah – bye week

Mercer vs Wofford
Tennessee v Arkansas
S Carolina @ Mizzou

Chris’ Picks

#1 Ohio St @ Indiana – Because really? The only thing to pull for at Ohio State is the guy in the marching band that makes the dot of the I in the show.
#2 Michigan St v Purdue – This is a long shot, I know. But I can’t pull for Michigan State because it will embolden one of my bosses to say how much better Michigan teams are than the SEC. He must not be given the ammunition.
#3 Ole Miss @ #25 Florida – Yes…I want upsets in the 25. However, Florida is orange.
#4 TCU v Texas – After last week, TCU is beatable. I’m surprised at they’re ranking after last week’s game against Texas Tech.
#5 Baylor vs Texas Tech – Their final play last week was amazing to watch because it was so desperate…yet almost worked. If they don’t do it again…well, I never followed them much so I can’t do anything.
#6 ND @ #12 Clemson – Anyone but Clemson. Any week, any year.
#7 UCLA vs Arizona State – I really don’t care here. I flipped a coin.
#8 UGA vs #13 Alabama  – This is typically a meteor game, but I’d love to see UGA’s SEC East standings affected if they lose to a West team. Kind of like the year South Carolina was kept out of the SEC title game after going undefeated in the East.
#9 LSU vs Eastern Michigan – Again pulling for the SEC and against Michigan.

Mercer vs Wofford  – Wofford is in Spartanburg, which is close to Clemson. Mercer is close to me. So Go Bears. (That…and I think everyone in my social and professional circles would stop talking to me if I go a different route here.)
Tennessee v Arkansas – Orange has been banned in my home since before I was born. This is an easy call, especially since I was forced to select one of my two hated teams last week, and the one I picked let me down in glorious fashion. (I was given an orange exemption for Mercer after a gathering of the family in light of Mercer University…see above.)
S Carolina @ Mizzou – Maty Mauk is out for this game, which is good for what’s passing as our defense this year. Even if he was in, I’d still call this for USC. Why? Because Go Gamecocks. Now I just have a little bit of hope, which is a step above just having loyalty.
