The First First Friday of 2014

UPDATE: I realized I titled that wrong- ha- should have had another “First” in there- smh. It’s what happens when you work with kids around…

Sadly, I cannot make it to the First Friday activities in Macon tomorrow- however if YOU can you really should. Why? Here’s a list:

Capturing the Dream King: Art by Monica Stevens

art by Monica Stevens
art by Monica Stevens

From the Facebook page, the artist’s statement is as follows:

” Art is nurtured in me by various influences. My family sings gospel music. In 1995, my mother, sister, and I were invited to sing at The Billy Graham Crusade in Atlanta. I am informally taught by traditional and nontraditional teachers. Creativity does not make me popular or normal, but I paint anyway. I paint if no one looks. I paint if no one cares. I paint. I have to paint.”

This is bound to be a creative and interesting show, I’m going to catch it afterwards but you can go to the opening tomorrow night. Monica comes from a very creative family for sure, her sister Molly is one half of Stevens Layne.

First Friday Art Opening: To the Point

From the 567 Center for Renewal’s Facebook page:

” The January exhibit at The 567 will be “To the Point,” an exhibit of pencil work created by artists from Middle Georgia and Atlanta. Artists featured in the exhibit will include: Jason Delasota, Daniel McCullers, Ron Dawes, Nancy Suffolk, Johnny Barlow, Amy Katheryn Heard, Jim Balletto, Markus Asbell, Micah Goguen, Kari Waltz, Craig Hamilton, Debra Yaun, and Terry Gambill.”

Ashutto Mirra at The Hummingbird

From The Hummingbird’s Facebook page:

” Ashutto Mirra is an alternative rock quartet based out of Athens, GA. With melodic guitar riffs, driving bass lines, and catch hooks, their songs are brought to life with on-stage energy and dynamic swagger. The quartet is formed by four Macon, GA natives; Scott Rainwater, Josh Birmingham, Patrick Yoe, and Doyle Williams.”

Ok so, I’ll at least be able to make it out to the Bird tomorrow night- since I get off of work around 10:00 pm- and the art I’ll be able to catch later on at least.

Of course, one of the big things that’s really fun about First Friday is seeing everyone- with all of this art happening tomorrow night I can promise you you will see friends!

Would love to hear what your First Friday plans are…

Love to all y’all,

Molly
