#SFW2014 Savannah Fashion Week: Interview with Nicole Edge

I really like the idea of custom made clothing, but sometimes it’s hard to find a tailor- or someone who is willing to go with your vision. That’s why I’ve asked our previous designers if they would be willing to design custom outfits.

But this designer primarily works in making custom outfits as well as costumes and teaching sewing lessons. She reminds me of myself in that she has multiple odd jobs. (For the record- I primarily have a marketing and PR business called The Hyperion Group, but I also do some freelance photography, writing, and I also paint when I have the time. You know- with all the free time that also being a full time mommy gives me. *sarcasm font here*)

But back to our interview. Nicole Edge owns Kleo’s Sewing Studio, which is just above The Paris Market. She was shown at last year’s Savannah Fashion Week Runway Show, and will be shown again this year. And she was gracious enough to answer my questions:

MIWM: What is your design aesthetic? What inspires you to create?
NE: My design aesthetic is all over the place-I love monochromatic work, but tend to appreciate anything well-made. I’m inspired to create, simply by the act of creation, itself. I design and sew everything on my own, down to the last stitch, so its very exciting to see an idea that I put down on paper turn into a tangible garment.

MIWM: If you were to describe your style in two words what would they be?
NE: The two works that would describe my style for this years show would be “clean and simple”.
MIWM: Do you think fashion should be attainable for all people? Why or why not?
NE: Fashion should be attainable for everyone! It’s just another creative outlet, and we all need those.

MIWM: Who would you say is your ideal customer?

NE: My ideal customer is someone who enjoys the wilder side of fashion, and appreciates handcrafted one of a kind garments.
MIWM: Do you ever make custom items for customers who may have a certain design in mind?
NE: Yes, my favorite work is custom design. I have created every day clothing, to wedding gowns, and everything in between!

I’m really looking forward to what Nicole has to present to us during fashion week- and she’s super nice to talk to also!
Love to all y’all
