Now What?: Thrifty Thursday #5

[collapse title=”So Now What?: Thrifty Thursdays #5″ collapseid=”UniqueID”]Every Thursday you can expect a feature of some of the clothing, jewelry, shoes or other nick-nacks that I find in local thrift stores! I’ll also provide y’all with some thrifting tips on how to find these beauties!

So this week, we have something very special for the Thrifty Thursday segment!

Okay, so you’ve been thrifting, bought some clothes… Now what?

Thanks to the lovely and gracious women at Karats and Keepsakes, this Ann Taylor skirt ($3.99) I’ve thrifted has been turned into 3 different outfits!!

Once you thrift an item, you’re going to need to incorporate it into your wardrobe. Start by paring it with simple and complimentary colored items.
Here, the ladies at K&K went with a printed bandeau, a simple white top, and some colorful jewelry to give the outfit color. This could function as a simple college day-to-day look or something to wear to a day concert like the plenty Macon has around town.

Next, try and play up the item you bought by pairing it with fun printed or patterned items that you already own to make the outfit stand out.
We went with a black and white printed poncho, accessorized with a printed clutch and a simple black beaded necklace. This look could be used for formal occasions like dinner, a trip to one of Macon’s art galleries, or just a night out!

Lastly, you want to get the most out of your newly found treasure, so play it up even more! Keep experimenting and trying new things to mix up your closet and show off your most recent find.
The last thing we tried was a sheer pink patterned top, a pink waist belt, with two different accessories: a scarf (Ooh! Who doesn’t love a good scarf??) and a beautiful and simple gold and black necklace. I’m pretty sure we called this a Sunday morning church outfit or a ‘meet the parents’ style.

So even though thrifting will get you tons of deals make sure you explore other things in your closets and at boutiques like Karats and Keepsakes in order to get a full range of outfits that are multi-purposeful.

P.S. This was so much fun to do! I loved the taste and advice of Julie and her crew and all their help. A very special thanks to the women at Karats and Keepsakes. P.S.S. They also helped me with “my modeling skills” which was not an easy task. A thank you also to Elizabeth, who takes amazing pictures!!!

So unlike at a boutique or department store, thrift stores are often pretty unorganized. This means that things get misplaced ALL the time. Like I said in an earlier post, you need to take your time. This is because everything is everywhere. I’m pretty sure on almost all of my thrifting outings, I make a stop among every section, men’s, women’s, children, yes, all of them. Things are misplaced by customers and occasionally employees so women’s blouses end up in men’s shirts—meaning, if you just stick to the women’s section, you can sometimes miss out on a whole bunch of misplaced finds. So make sure to look in all of the expected and even unexpected places for good thrifts!

Thrifting is treasure hunting. So from one treasure hunter to another, keep on thrifting!
