NaPoWriMo- I’m Joining a Little Late

So, for those of you not familiar, “NaNoWriMo” is short for “National Novel Writing Month” and it takes place in November. “NaProWriMo” is the spin-off for “National Poetry Writing Month”. Being that I consider myself to be a poet, albeit an amateur one- if one can be an amateur at something they have been doing for nearly a decade, I figured I should join in on the fun. I’m a little late to the game but here goes my attempt from yesterday:

Oh evil coffee chain

How you lure me in

With your over-priced mocha lattes

Frothy frappe drinks

And creamy delights

Even my kids know their orders

As we pull up

Beside your green mer-persons sign

“Chocolate milk Nilla milk

And cake pops pleaaaaaseeee”

Oh evil coffee chain

I wasn’t even intending to come your way

Today

But alas

My glazed over auto pilot eyes

Kicked in

As I drove to buy canvas paint

And my hands steered

The wheel

Of my smoke cloud puffing

SUV

In to the turn lane

Turning your way

And automatically

Like so much else in our lives

I spouted off the order

And drove away
