Music Monday: All The Locals

Music is a huge part of my life, I can’t go on a long car ride without a playlist ready to go and I can’t go about my daily business at home without it on in the background. With that being said, I’m going to review one of my favorite bands for y’all. I’m also terribly late reviewing their latest album, which they so kindly sent me an advance copy of way back in March 2015- I think.

All The Locals is an Atlanta based band, I’ve reviewed them before. I said at the time that they were about 2 steps ahead of the current trend, and I still believe that. A mix of rock, funk, soul, jazz and fun they are a group that I continue to fall in love with.

I think their development is best heard by listening to tracks from each album. First, and still a favorite of mine, is the upbeat “Monday”:

This song just makes me happy, I want to instantly jump up and dance my little heart out. My next one to highlight would be ” Follow Me”, the lead on their second album:

To me, and I’m not a music critic by trade, I can hear a little more matured sound. A deeper use of the horns- which I love. I’m a big fan of adding that kind of sound when appropriate.

The same holds true for third album Atlantica Pacifica. Lead track ” Fly Away” features this lovely piano thread and beautiful vocals:

While ” House of Gold” has a return to harder rock roots while still paying homage to a jazzy, soulful sound with some horns in the background.

So while I’m late reviewing them, please give All The Locals a listen. I promise you will thank me later. And if you ever get the chance to catch them live you won’t regret it. My last time seeing them in Macon at the Bird they gave this awesome freeform jam session well into the late night hours and… if you’ve never seen a band just jam out you might not understand this… but it’s really pure magic when you can watch musicians just go at it unscripted. It’s something akin to watching really good actors get up there and improv. But with instruments.

Love to all y’all,

Molly
