Monday Music Playlist 08-25-2014

Got the Monday blues? Not anymore! Here’s my playlist to get me through this Monday…. all are artists who have played in Macon, and all except one I got to see live myself.

I included Alabama Shakes on this list, even though I haven’t seen them myself, because I love them and they did play here once (that I know of).

Notes about each band, and why I have them listed, are below this playlist:

Monday: All The Locals, saw them twice- at the Cox Capitol during Cherry Blossom and again at The Bird- and they will be performing there again on September the 5th (First Friday!)

Good Luck Charm: The Dirty Guv’nahs, saw them at the Cox Capitol, and they were here again this past weekend for Weaver’s Weekend. They’re on tour now so check out their dates and see if they’re coming to a venue near you- they have a lot of fun energy.

The Company Man: Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires, first heard of them thanks to The Bitter Southerner, got to see them live at Bragg Jam. Love their thoughtful and challenging lyrics- especially on the ugly parts of Southern heritage.

Brother: Swear and Shake, got to catch them at The Bird as well- not sure when they will be back in the area but they’re super nice and have a beautiful, well-rounded sound.

Have Me: Bombadil, first saw them during one of the Macon Music Ambassadors house concerts, and again at another private concert- and then later that night at Roasted Cafe and Lounge. A good “date night” kind of band.

Brothers and Sisters: Thomas Wynn and the Believers, the band that brought a tear to Alan Walden’s eye when they first performed at 2013 Bragg Jam on the Grant’s Lounge stage. Got to catch them a few more times, this is a band that is going somewhere for sure.

Nero: Little Tybee, saw them once at a private house concert as they were on their way to SXSW- interested to see where they go, meant to order their white vinyl release… in fact let me check their website now to see if they have it still….

Eula Mae: The Whiskey Gentry, a band with Macon ties- one band member has a cousin living here, which is cool. Love their high energy bluegrass sound.

Hang Loose: Alabama Shakes, need I say more? Also, Brittany is my hero.

These Bones: Megan Jean and the KFB, this was the first show I saw at Grant’s Lounge, and it was a lesson that many times you catch the best acts at places you *think* are nothing more than a rundown dive bar. And I love talking to them on Twitter, too.

I’ve Been Around The World: Seven Handle Circus, a band I first saw at the Cox Capitol and then again at Second Sunday, a really fun, live act that can appeal to any age. And they do a mean cover of “This Is How We Do It”. Look it up on YouTube.

Magnolia: Sterling Waite and the Cotton Avenue Hustlers, not sure if this group- also a part of the next one I’ll list- is still performing as Waite entered law school this past year… last I heard. But still worth listening to for sure.

Heart of Stone: Back City Woods, so yes- some members of this band were/are a part of the above listed one, but I do know this band is still performing. Interesting note: one of their lead members used to work with me at Enterprise Rent-a-Car and told me he was in this band but I never had the chance to check em out. That’s what happened when you’re pregnant, though.
