Just Tickled Pink Over Cherry Blossom

I am genuinely excited about the Cherry Blossom Festival this year.

For those of who you didn’t know, once upon a time I was in the Cherry Blossom pageant. Oh yeah. Of course, back then my mother was so against me being in a pageant that she stubbornly refused to let me buy a pink dress “that you’ll only wear once”- which resulted in my borrowing a dress from my friend Clare. Oh, if only my mother could have looked ahead several years down the road then perhaps I could have brought it back out for the gala party.

Ok, so it’s not likely that I would have done that- not to even mention I wouldn’t have a prayer of fitting in that dress, but that’s beside the point.

This year’s Cherry Blossom heralds a year of bringing back former staff members as well as former events. And I’m excited about it all. Here’s just some of what I’m looking forward to:

March 24th: Grand Opening and Founder’s Day, 4:00 p.m. Central City Park

Come on down to celebrate the opening of Cherry Blossom!

March 25th: Ocmulgee Duck Dash, 10:30 a.m. Amerson River Park

One lucky duck will win $1,000! All ducks will be placed in the Ocmulgee River at once to race down the river. The purchase of these rubber duckies will also benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters & Crisis Line and Safe House.

March 25th: Cotton Avenue Revival Festival 11:00 a.m., March 26th at 7:00 p.m.

This event celebrates the historic Cotton Avenue District. “Historic and music tours will be offered on Saturday showcasing the rich and diverse legacy of the people and businesses that built the neighborhood. Neighborhood restaurants will feature Festival Specials for attendees. Also, the iconic churches of the Cotton Avenue neighborhood will be open for tours and music,” according to the Cherry Blossom website. This is a free event.

March 25th: Cherry Blossom Gala 7:00 p.m. Middle Georgia State University

Kick off the 35th annual festival with an evening of dancing!

March 27th – March 31st: 1:00 p.m. Rock Candy Tours

Learn about Macon’s music history with these iconic walking tours, $10 each.

March 30th: Cherry Blossom Fashion Show & Luncheon 11:00 a.m.

I’m not just saying this is a favorite because my kids and I were in it last year, it really is one of my favorites. Come out for a lovely lunch and see options for dressing up in our pinkest pink.

April 1st – April 2nd: 47th Annual Mulberry Street Arts & Crafts Festival 10:00 a.m.

Head downtown for this arts & crafts show and you’ll be sure to find something you love.

And… for the event I’m MOST excited about:

The Street Party. Tickets are $20 in advance and it is going to be a STEAL. Why? Because the lineup is unreal. Local favorites Me & Molly will be there, along with JD McPherson, Chuck Leavell & the Randall Bramblett Band, AND WHO I AM THE MOST EXCITED ABOUT…. Mavis Staples.

I’m so excited, I’ve even started buying new Cherry Blossom outfits!

AND We’re even so excited over here that we made our own Cherry Blossom inspired candle!
