It’s that Peachy time of the year!

Mizz Mac here- Hey Ya’ll ! Peach season is upon us! Did you go to the Peach Festival last weekend? I heard they cooked the world’s largest peach cobbler!! I just love warm peach cobbler with a dollop of slightly melted vanilla ice cream on top!

Thinking about peach cobbler inspired my idea for printing with a peach! Peaches are awfully moist. After I cut a peach in half, I used a melon baller to dig out the pit. Next I dried the peach halves out a bit by turning them cut side down on a pad of paper towels.

My next step was to grab the Kids Washable Paint tempera paint, a 9×12 sheet of watercolor paper white, a #10 soft round paint brush, and a container of water.

Art teacher that I am, I decided to print with only warm colors- so I removed red, yellow, orange, and white paint jars from the box. Those colors will mix well together.

We always begin with our lightest color. I painted a peach half with white paint and stamped it all over the white paper.

Next came yellow, then orange, and last was red.

I never washed the peach off between painting it with different colors.

I dried the stamped watercolor paper with a hair dryer.

My last step was to color the white spots (negative space) with cool colors blues, greens, and purples. I really liked use colored chalk because I could smooth out the colors and vary the values.

It turned into an abstract!! I hope you too will try printing a peach!
