Gems In Locust Grove

It’s the end of another weekend. Which for me-means planning for the next.  Some come with great adventures, and some come with small ones…but as long as there are memorable moments, I find myself happiest.

And THAT is exactly how I feel about stumbling upon “great finds” in every day living. Whether it be a wonderful coffee spot, great boutique, or charming little café, little gems are sure to remind me (and us all) what life is really about. So, imagine the sheer joy that a glorious place combining all three can bring! Recently on a work trip, I set out to explore the city of Locust Grove’s downtown area. *Explorer’s tip: Always always always opt for local flavor over chains when in a new location. Good or bad, you’re sure to experience something more memorable than the same chain you can find anywhere.

Following this mantra has led me to some wonderful little “finds”…like Locust Grove’s The French Market and Tavern.

Oh, my, heaven. This little spot is truly a hidden gem that’s bound to shine big. Our hilarious server aptly mentioned that he jokingly refers to it as the “Cajun Cracker Barrel.” Ok. Only if Cracker Barrel served every yummy Cajun + Creole dish my heart desires and supplied all of the home décor and gift items that I drool over in design magazines.

Seriously, it’s that good. And, the best part? The beauty is simply enhanced with the friendly ease of the service. It’s super refreshing in a foodie world to find owners and staff who know they have good product, but aren’t afraid to chat with you about it.

Back to the yummy…Cajun, Creole, Southern, and sweets are favorites here. I’d say I’m a sucker for Southern staples. And these Fried Green tomatoes were done perfectly with a spicy remoulade so you don’t forget the Cajun influence.

If you happen to stop in at a time where you aren’t SUPER hungry (why?)…I feel confident this is the kind of spot where  you could quietly enjoy an amazing coffee drink and dessert while getting a little work done, too.

And let’s be honest, couldn’t we all use a few more amazing gems/finds in this world? Personally, I’m always in pursuit of these..and hope you’ll give yourself some extra time/encouragement/zest to give a local spot a try, too. You never know what yummy you’ll find 😉
