A Gastro Pub + Ambiance + Really Good & Innovative Menus Items = The New Bearfoot Tavern

I usually like to give new places a chance to calm down before I rush their newly opening doors.

I purposely did not go to the soft opening of the new Bearfoot because I saw a LOT of people I knew were going. Chef Michael later told me about 400 people came in that evening. And while I heard nothing but praise for that night, there’s a reason they call it a soft opening: so all the kinks can be worked out.

I ran in rather quickly during a dinner break one night this past week and would not have gotten a seat had Keisha Danzie not seen me on the street, walking away, and knocked on the window to summon me in.

Like a road weary traveller I came in from the cold and rain looking for something to warm me.

I certainly found that with the welcoming atmosphere of a busy bar, leather paneled booths, and old-fashioned looking lamps encircling the room.

That first night I ordered the fish tacos. I just wanted to grab something quick and easy but still tasty.

I certainly was not dispointed. Even though they are an appetizer the portion was large enough, for me, to be a small entree. I also got the parmesan truffle fries, they had just the right touch of cheese- and being cooked in truffle oil certainly made a difference in their lightness.

The fish tacos were really good because the fish, a grouper ?, was seasoned just right. I also appreciated the cole slaw and corn tortillas.

My second trip in here was for a Saturday lunch, which I’m happy to report includes brunch items. For this visit, I had the chance to peruse the menu a little bit more.

Would it be the burger? Would it be the pork belly? Would it be the chicken and biscuits brunch item?!

I couldn’t decide, so this is one of the perks of knowing the chef for… gosh it’s over ten years by now. Anyways, I told our server to let him decide. I knew I would be in good hands.

Open faced chicken and biscuits it was!! And they were damn good. So good.

An interesting fact- this is when being a skilled chef makes all the difference. They were out of whatever item it was he would usually use to season the gravy. Substitution was made and I couldn’t even tell the difference. And… coffee was also used somewhere in there, according to my server. It’s well documented that I am a coffee nut, so anytime it’s incorporated into my food I am one happy girl. Give me allllll the caffiene.

And my kiddos were happy with their hamburger and cheeseburger. Another note: my son originally ordered a cheese sandwich- but he meant to order and cheeseburger somehow. So he proceeded to have a fit and I told him we would have to grab the waitress to try and replace it. Never had the chance but lo and behold a cheeseburger appeared and he was a happy boy. She must have heard him. Great service!

I’m very happy with the new Bearfoot, and I think you will be too. Go give them a visit soon!
