Tasty Tuesday East Atlanta Style: Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand
Some of y’all are aware that I had a brief stint in trying to live the Atlanta life.
It was really fun for a little while, driving into the “big city”, not feeling the need to say hello to others in the elevator. Everyone was hurry hurry hurry- just like I always am.
But what I really enjoyed was trying to discover all of the little small neighborhoods within Atlanta, preferably ITP (In The Perimeter). OTP scared me a bit.
One of the neighborhoods that I really wish I could have explored more was East Atlanta Village.
It still seems to be on the edge of the new developments and looks like it can maintain it’s own creative aesthetic.
One of the restaurants I was told I had to go to was Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand.
I would sometimes pass by there when my Waze app would wind me around the Downtown Connector craziness and was curious anyway.
One night after one of my friend Michael Dunaway’s famous events, he’s the Film Editor for Paste Magazine and an all around super cool dude, I decided to stop in on my way back home to Macon.
The narrow restaurant is popular at all times of the day, as I learned even when passing by. And for good reason. The people are friendly and the food is good.
A quick internet search tells me owner Delia Champion has been at this for 15 years. And that the chicken sausage is organic and hormone free- always a plus. Further the dishes are created from scratch. It’s a nice alternative for a quick meal for the travel weary, such as myself.
I decided to get the Chico Tacos: “chorizo chicken sausage, salsa verde, queso fresco, jalapenos and onions on soft corn tortillas”.
I know I know- not likely the obvious thing to get for the first time at a chicken stand. But they were really good!
If you are ever in the East Atlanta area I would definitely try Delia’s Chicken Sausage stand. Also, they’ve got awesome milkshakes (and even let me try one!).
