Bust Your Buns at the Ballet Barre (Pure Barre in Macon, Georgia)

Ahhh haha sometimes I crack myself up. I really am a literary nerd sometimes (referring to my alliteration above). Anyways…

So, this is my much anticipated review of Pure Barre.

This came about because I literally had multiple people approach me asking what I thought about the prices for Pure Barre, the newest fitness studio to open up in Macon. And I really didn’t think I could comment without experiencing it. So, I did.

Let me paint a picture for you: for whatever reason, I assumed this workout would be mostly leg workouts. I guess because my friends who had been to the previous free preview classes kept talking about how much their legs hurt. And also, I mean I did a year of ballet …. at age four. So I remember doing a lot with my legs. LET ME CLARIFY NOW: THIS IS A WHOLE BODY WORKOUT.

Now, why would I feel the need to emphasize this so much? I dunno, maybe it’s because I got overambitious and went to the gym beforehand. Yep. THIS GIRL did an hour and a half on the elliptical and arm weights before coming in to Pure Barre. Go ahead and stamp the word
“masochist” on my forehead.

In case you didn’t figure it out from what I just said, Pure Barre is a whole body workout. I’m honestly not even sure what to compare it to. There were elements of yoga, weight workouts, and ballet barre exercise. My legs were literally shaking at one point. Now, I consider myself to be in pretty good shape. I mean, I can do 150 pounds on the hip adductor (abductor? one of them) leg machine at the gym. Maybe that’s in my head but it seems impressive to me! So, when I come across something that makes me – I wish I was kidding- shake because I’m working out in a whole other way… phew. I am out of words.

I did also interview Whitney, the owner of Pure Barre, so I could get a few questions answered:

MIWM: How would you describe this workout to someone who isn’t familiar with Pure Barre?

Whitney: Pure Barre is the fastest, most effective and safest way to change your body. The workout focuses on the areas of the body where women, and many men, struggle with most: thighs, seat, hips, abs and back of arms.  Pure Barre creates long and lean muscles through small isometric movements centered around the ballet barre. Because there are no large or fast movements there is not a negative impact on your joints.

MIWM: What makes Pure Barre different from other “ballet bar” based workouts?

Whitney: The Pure Barre workout is considered the most athletic, effective and motivating of the barre techniques. Although the class is intense, as long as you can hold on to the barre, you can do it! All fitness levels are welcome and no dance experience is required.

MIWM: What would you say to someone who says this is expensive?

Whitney: Pure Barre works! In just 10 music-motivated classes, clients see results and burn fat in record breaking time.  There is a lot of science and history behind the workout to ensure clients see results and stay motivated.

Now, as always, don’t just take my word for it- get out there and try it yourself! For me, I know I will be back.

Love to all yall,
