Bring the Eclipse Donuts Back!

So look- I know that the eclipse doughnuts at Krispy Kreme were this special one-time-only type of deal because of the eclipse…. but I really wish they would offer them more.

You see, the chocolate iced frosted donuts (I’m using both spellings) have always been my favorite. When I was a little kid they were my reason for getting up early and going to Sunday School before church- because someone would always pick up the donuts and bring them for breakfast for everyone. This was back when there was a third Krispy Kreme in Macon, right where Forsyth Street and Hardeman Avenue would split from Vineville. I’m pretty sure they would just pick them up on their way to church- it was an easy stop, after all, given that St. Paul’s was just down the hill maybe a minute or two.

But you had to get there early, because there were only so many chocolate donuts- and someone else might get them all if you were late.

So when Krispy Kreme announced they were doing these doughnuts that were totally covered in this iced chocolate goodness, I had to go and get some. In fact, I went twice.

The first time before taking my kids to school, and the next time for an impromptu eclipse party.

The first set were freshly made, ooey and gooey and covered in chocolate that instantly melted around mine and my kids hands. Pretty sure the only reason they didn’t get in trouble that day was because they were picked up early.

And then the next set, the folks at Krispy Kreme wisened up to the popularity of the doughnuts and had boxes already pre-made for those who came in. Those were just as good.

So while these special doughnuts added to a special day, I’d love to have them available whenever I want!
