ATL at the Cherry Blossom Music Festival

No, I’m not referring to Atlanta or Hotlanta or some large busload of people from the ATL.

All The Locals seems to be the only band that Louise Warren missed out on– and I hate it because they were the biggest take away for me.

They have an honest, organic sound. I have a difficult time describing it to be honest.

Watching the evolution of the music scene over the past, I’d say maybe two years (because thats when I started paying attention), and seeing this sudden (so it seemed to me perhaps I’m wrong) surge of a reutnr to our Americana roots complete with fiddles and banjos. A sound like The Lumineers “Ho Hey” or even Mumford & Sons. The next step to me seems like we are headed towards bands like Thomas Wynne and the Believers or even Cranford Hollow (which followed All The Locals during this show). Something with the graduated level from an updated bluegrass to a rock infused Americana with the soul of Southern Rock.

However- All The Locals is about two steps ahead of the current trend. While we are heading towards a revival of Southern Rock, in my opinion, All The Locals is a step ahead of that movement. With their soulful sound and genuine heart- it’s something I struggle to put a label to. They remind me of another band I saw perform locally, Little Tybee, which performed here in Macon two years ago on their way to South by Southwest. But on a larger scale comparison, I would say they have the same timeless sound of a Hootie and the Blowfish.

Oh and may I add: they’re nice people.

A perk of taking photographs of bands and performances for the Cox Capitol Theatre is that I many times get to interact with the bands backstage. This was the first time that I got to meet a band after their promoter had reached out to me beforehand, and that they had read my (Louise’s) post mentioning them and were just so thankful. It was startling to be honest.

Their promoter, Hugh, was nice enough to also give me two of their EP’s. I popped the older one in to my cd player in my car and one song immediately stood out for me- so much so that a week and longer later it’s still in my car and I’ve played it over and over again.

” Monday” has become my new go-to feel good song. It’s embedded in the Soundcloud file above, towards the end, so check it out. Even my kids dance to it. I just can’t get enough of it!

So if you see me doing the ridiculous “car dancing” from my driver’s seat you can know it’s most likely due to All The Locals- so check them out!

Love to all y’all,
