An Easy New Year’s Eve Makeup Look

I was once told by a guy I was dating at the time that I was “the most low maintenance-high maintenance” girl he knew. A large part of this was my ability to put on a full face of makeup in roughly fifteen minutes.

No no I do not exaggerate. This is even for my most glamourous of evenings out. I have a stand-by routine that gets me through needing to be party makeup ready. And the great thing about this particular set of colors I’m using is that they are skin color neutral- so anyone can wear them.

Here’s what you will need:

Pro Long Wear Paint Pot by M.A.C. in Painterly

Eye shadows, in Electra (grey) and Filament (shimmery white)

Pressed Pigment eye shadow in Moth (silver) and Black Grape (darker slate grey)

If available- grab up one of the Nocturnals Pigments and Glitter Kits. I have the Green and Teal one, myself. Or use another loose pigment, glitter can be found nearly anywhere. For this I use Deep Blue Green, and the white glitter from the Kit. *** Note, you are NOT supposed to use the glitter on your eyes because the glitter can cut your eyes. I do it anyway. (I also wear prescription contacts- maybe that makes a difference?)

Now, before starting with your makeup make sure you have a clean face. I prefer to wash and scrub my face before a big makeup prep. M.A.C. has a great Volcanic Ash scrub, but lately I prefer to start out with either the EcosLab cleanser or the Philosophy Purity and use either one with my Clarisonic brush. This way the cleanser gets deep down in to the pores and really cleans the skin to start out. (I also use this to finalize makeup removal.) Then I’ll use the scrub on my face- because using some scrubs prior to the Clarisonic can cause damage to the skin. After that I like to use the The Body Shop’s Warming Mineral Mask, or another type of mask.

Once I’m done with that I replenish my skin with Bath and Body Work’s Wexler Skin Reginerating Serum- I swear this stuff is a miracle worker. Then I top it off with just a small amount of the Philosophy Hope in a Jar.

Ok so I should have said the cleansing part of the routine takes a little more time that the aforementioned 15 minutes- the makeup routine takes that long. But honestly this part should only take about ten minutes. I would argue I’m still ahead of most women by keeping the routine under 30 minutes.

Once you let your skin absorb the moisturizer, which maybe takes five minutes (and you can use that time to finalize a shoe decision) go ahead and apply foundation. Should take maybe a minute if that.

Lightly apply the Paint Pot on one lid first- you will complete one eye at a time- taking care to not let it cake up. I like to use Electra eye shadow first on the lid, using the first eye shadow brush shown below. Then use the second one (I’m sorry I’ve had them for so long I can’t read the numbers on them to ID them) to apply Filament to the crease of your lids, blending with Electra.

Next wet the next brush and apply Moth to the lid and the crease as well. Take the next brush shown, which was sent as part of a Klout sample from Real Techniques to me and I LOVE these brushes, to lightly pick up some of the Deep Blue Green pigment and apply to the crease. It’s going to seem like you’re applying this unevenly, but keep in mind you can always add more color easier than you can take it off. Use the same brush to blend, then also getting some of the Black Grape Pressed Pigment and also blending in. I’ll also add the Cinderfella Mineralize Eye Shadow with the last brush, and blend again with the purple handled one. (A note: I broke the case of mine so I literally wrap it in plastic wrap and put in a plastic bag all on its own for storage.)

Lastly, use the glitter along the outer edge of the eye for just an added effect. Anyone can wear these colors.

I would pair this look with a bright blush, for me I wear I’m The One and highlight it with Glissade mineralize- I’m honestly not sure if they carry that one anymore but something similar would work. I also use Medium Plus Mineralize Skin Finish rather than a powder. I finish it off with a bright lipstick, my absolute favorite right now is Candy Yum Yum- a very bright pink- and More To Love lip pencil. And here lately I finish it off with the Like Venus Dazzleglass lip gloss. It’s not necessary but I do it anyway.

SUPER super easy I literally just played around one night before an event and came up with this routine. And you can easily use other shadows with the same technique. It makes for a super easy New Year’s Eve makeup look and will work with any skin tone and outfit.

Love to all y’all!!
