A Sweet Simple Hold-it-All Sack: July Nine

I’m a part of a group of enterprising Instagram ladies (and gents), and as such every now and then I get to review the products of some of their companies.

One of these is July Nine. They make these awesome sacks which may seem rather unassuming at first, but let me tell you my Sushi Sack has saved me a number of times here lately.

As a Mother I’m always running out of a bag for something with my kids. Either it’s some trash they left in the car, or it’s rocks in the park, or it’s sweaty bottles of water. Always always always something.

I used to use old plastic trash bags, but since I’m trying to use reusable bags at the store I have less of these- and those that I do I recycle anyway. Now I have the July Nine bag!

It’s sturdy with a real leather handle. It wraps around the nylon bag so that it can roll up in a little bright ball in your purse. In fact it’s the resemblance to sushi that gives this bag it’s name. There’s even this handy little video to show you how to roll it up:

I would say my absolute favorite use of this bag has been for bottles of water. I’m always toting around either a reusable bottle or even a plastic one and either way they sweat in my purse. Yuck. BUT by using THIS I can keep the bottles away from my other items or even carry it outside of my purse and not have to worry about a bag tearing or items getting wet.

Another bonus? They’re made in America so you can feel good about shopping in our country 🙂

I did have the chance to speak with them as well!

MW: How was July Nine started?

July Nine started in a garage as a one man team with an idea and a passion to bring manufacturing back to America. After asking the question of why re-suable bags were so cumbersome to carry, Garrett Loveall designed the first Sushi Sack, a unique roll-up tote bag that rolls back up into itself and easily stores. This bag has exceeded it’s original intent and become the go-to bag for any adventure whether it’s outdoors, urban commuting or every-day errands. A few short years later, July Nine has grown to 5 person team that is proud to design and manufacture everything in house, in Oregon, with many more colors and products still with the same great passion and design.

MW: Where did the name July Nine come from? What’s the significance?

Garrett’s father is a photographer and was traveling on a photo assignment in Argentina. He came back from the trip and told Garrett about a street in Buenos Aires called July Nine Avenue. It’s the widest street in the world, 16 lanes wide and he was so fascinated by it the name just stuck. Now a lot of July Nine’s bags are named after significant streets or places to the July Nine team.

MW: Tell us about the owner/founder.

Garrett grew up making anything he could himself. He started sewing at an early age and after many years in engineering school, he decided to combine his passion for sewing and entrepreneurship to launch a business. When he’s not coming up with the next July Nine idea, you can find him snowboarding on his favorite mountain in Bend, Oregon.

MW: What’s the inspiration for the different bag designs?

July Nine strives to make their products modern and functional. By focusing on lightweight material, quality manufacturing and simple styles the bags can really take a life of their own. The use is really up to the owner and by keeping them so simple we allow for our customers to be creative and thoughtful in why they want to carry them and what they do with them. We’ve heard it all from grocery bags, to baby bags to using it for carrying water to put out a camp fire.

Well everyone, I hope y’all have enjoyed learning more about July Nine and their products just like I have. ALSO- we’ll be doing a giveaway soon! So keep your eyes open because I used my July Nine bag throughout my Girl Meets Birmingham trip, and will be posting a giveaway once that post and videos are up!

Love to all y’all,
